The Kona Surf Hotel was located on the southern shore of Keauhou Bay at  Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Sitting on 22 oceanfront acres the hotel was built in 1971. Japan based Otaka Inc. acquired the hotel in 1986 for over 20 million and closed the doors in 2000 due to disrepair and loosing over 3 million a year.  Koa Hotel LLC, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc purchase the land lease from the Kamehameha Schools and built the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort
