Originally opened on September 11, 1916, Jefferson High School is located at 1319 E. 4st. Street in Los Angeles. On March 10, 1933, after a magitude 6.4 earthquake hit the area on March 10, 1933 six of the buildings were destroyed.
With a budget of $353,000, architect Stiles O. Clements was hired in 1933 to build a 45-unit campus. The project was completed in 1935. Many African Americans graduated from Jefferson high breaking racial barriers in the art of dance, music, sports and politics.
