The Hacienda Housing Village was constructed in 1942 built primarily for low-income defense related workers, Designed by architect Paul Revere Williams the houses used almost no metal due to the war effort’s need for metal. The project was $502,000. Plagued by crime from two of Los Angeles’ most dangerous gangs, many families moved out due to safety issues. The project was cleaned up in the 1980’s and made safe again. The property was operated by the housing authority of the City of Los Angeles, It was built on 17.6 acres of land. It consisted of 72 one story buildings which had 182 housing units for 437 residents.
