Goodyear Rubber Company as well as other rubber companies started facilities on the West Coast in the mid 1920’s. Due to other major manufacturing industries also locating in the area and the availability of raw materials, at least 3 other rubber companies were also opened. By the early 1940’s these factories were employing thousands of persons and supplying the west coast as well as Alaska and Hawaii with all their tires.
